Tak Maeda

A graduate of Osaka College of Music, Tak played his trumpet full time with the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, a professional symphony orchestra in the Greater Osaka area, from 1979 to 1989.

In addition, he was a band clinician for Yamaha Music Foundation Japan for years, where he guest conducted many award-winning bands at Yamaha sponsored clinics and festivals. It was here that he began to mentor younger band instructors.

Seeking for more musical challenge and excitement, Tak and his family moved to Canada in 1990. He played trumpet with the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed the choir at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in North Vancouver, and then started conducting community bands on the North Shore.

Currently, Tak is the music director of:
West Vancouver Concert Band (Monday nights)
West Vancouver Pops Band (Thursday nights)
Sea to Sky Wind Ensemble (Tuesday nights)

Tak always makes a promise when he starts conducting a new group.
"Playing music must be an enjoyable experience. You will have lots of fun not only at the concerts but also at every single rehearsal."
